More than 1M will receive the COVID vaccine in the US: CDC

WASHINGTON

More than 1 million people in the U.S. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the past 10 days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Wednesday.

“Doses have been dispensed for both the Moderna and Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines; doses are currently administered for the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine only,” the health agency said on its website .

At least 1,008,025 people have been vaccinated and 9,465,725 doses have been distributed.

“The United States achieved an early but important milestone today – sovereigns have now reported that more than 1 million people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since administration began 10 days ago,” Director Robert Redfield said in a statement.

The CDC urged Americans to wear a mask, monitor social distance, avoid crowds and wash their hands so that everyone in the country could receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

On Wednesday, the U.S. had more than 18.3 million confirmed cases and nearly 325,000 deaths from the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
