Montem is testing a level 1 hard cooking coal at Chinook Vicary

PRAYERS

  • Montem obtains excellent results from detailed coal quality testing work completed on large diameter basic samples from Chinook Vicary.

  • Unique coke strength results with CSR values ranging from 67 to 74.

  • Work segment producing clean coal yields high plant yield with low ash: 9.1%; low volatile case: 21.4%; low total sulfur: 0.48%; favorable status (RoMax): 1.31%; and separate CSR: 70

  • The virtues of Chinook Vicary coal fit precisely in the specification range for “Low Vol Premium Hard Cooking Coal”.

  • Test work used coal samples from the Chinook Vicary 2020 survey program that confirmed that near-surface, densely structured coal zones were suitable for future open extraction.

  • The results confirmed historical coal quality testing work and product coal specification; demonstrates that a significant proportion of Chinook Vicary’s production coal is similar in quality to the Phase 1 hard cooking coals mined at Teck Resources Limited mines in the Elk Valley, and mines in Queensland.

  • Chinook Vicary, and the Chinook Project are all within the territory of the Alberta Coal Policy Division 4. Division 4 land is areas where surface mining is being considered.

  • Montem will use the new coal quality results and geological information from the 2020 survey program to update Chinook Vicary JORC’s resource estimate, expected in Q2 2021.

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 4, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Montem Resources Limited (ASX: MR1) (“Montem” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the results of a coal quality test operation carried out on drill samples from the Chinook Vicary area of its Chinook Project in Q4 CY2020.

The Chinook Project (“Chinook” or “Project”) in Alberta, Canada there are two districts, Chinook Vicary and Chinook South. The project has a coal storage estimate of 149.1Mt (103.8Mt identified and 45.3Mt imported) and a coal survey target estimate of more 125Mt to 450Mt1 at Vicary Chinook.

Large-diameter heart samples, obtained from the Montem study drilling at Chinook Vicary in late 2020, were analyzed, with coal-quality and carbonation results confirming that Chinook had low-quality hard coal (HCC) coal. Vicary. Montem completed drilling at Chinook Vicary within the conceptual open shell shell areas designed during the Chinook Project Scoping Study released there February 2021. These drilling and coal quality results will now be used to update the JORC resource estimate for Chinook Vicary, expected in Q2 2021.

Montem Managing Director and CEO, Patrick Doyle said:

“We are thrilled that Chinook Vicary’s coal quality products prove to be a hard cooking coal of Level 1. Vicary historic ore sold 100% of its output to Japanese steelmakers in the 1970s. When we met with the same companies making that steel Tokyo, referred to the exceptional quality of the coal from Vicary and showed us the product specification from the old mine. So we always knew that Chinook had the potential for high-quality coal, and we are really happy to prove this with the current drilling. To achieve over 70 CSR for slow cooking hard coal, Vicary firmly places in the top branch of cooking hard coal available on the global market. “

“The laundry results from Seam 2 and Seam 4 are impressive, with a typical plant yield of around 75%. Seam 4 in the area was drilled past 15m thick, and makes up about 45% of the total Facility in the Vicoping Scoping Study pits. With these results, and the Scoping Survey’s mine plan, the potential for a low-cost, level 1 hard coal mine has now been proven. ”

“The next step, later this year, is to drill out the remaining areas included in the Scoping Survey’s mine plan, and move on to the Ro-ion Survey. As the entire Chinook Project lies within the territory of the Alberta Coal Policy Section 4, we will continue to explore and design mines. We are excited about Chinook and look forward to the next development step. “
