Sotheby’s Monaco auction from late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s estate is expected to sell later this year. The designer’s estate caretaker gave the auction house a mission to value and sell products from Lagerfeld residences two years after his passing.
The valuation process is expected to take around two months with the slate sale to take place in the second half of 2021. Selecting Monaco for the sale is “to highlight the designer’s strong connection to the principal and family The Monaco estate is just one of many homes of the late designer.
“The auction will honor this unique and highly creative designer, a leading figure in the world of fashion and art,” said Pierre Mothes, Sotheby’s French vice president.
Although they did not specify what products were being sold, they did mention that it would include furniture, design and detailed art. Lagerfeld was one of the most famous designers in the fashion industry, leading Chanel since 1983 among other brands including his own label. He was also known as an avid collector of art and furniture from various eras and styles as well as a passion for interior design. He sold his collection of 18th-century French furniture and artwork at Christie’s in 200 for US $ 28.5 million.
