Ministry of Health: Do not get vaccinated in the first trimester of pregnancy

Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva updated tonight (Thursday) that the condition of the two corona-sick mothers who were hospitalized about ten days ago has deteriorated. The two were connected to an Acmo machine for health support. Dr. Ilya Kagan, director of the Corona Intensive Care Unit, said: “Because their condition has worsened, we decided to connect them to an acoustic device that replaces lung function until they recover. Their situation is defined as very difficult and unstable. “

At the same time, another 34-year-old mother, who was infected with corona and her condition deteriorated, was transferred to the corona intensive care unit at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, and connected to an Acmo machine. Her condition is severely defined.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has released updated recommendations formulated by a team of experts regarding the immunization of pregnant women against the corona virus. The document includes the new directive for pregnant women who are not in risk groups not to be vaccinated in the first trimester of pregnancy, but only from the beginning of the second trimester.

According to the authors of the document, some of the recommendations contained therein are based on biological and epidemiological considerations, in the absence of relevant studies in humans. They noted that “corona is a risk factor for pregnancy in morbidity, and most of the severe maternal morbidity as a result of corona virus occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy.”

In light of this, the team recommended that all women who are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy get vaccinated against the virus. The document emphasized that “at all stages of pregnancy, there is no evidence of harm to the fetus or during the pregnancy as a result of the vaccine, and no biological mechanism is known that can indicate such a possibility.”

A similar recommendation to get vaccinated was also given to women in the first trimester of pregnancy, who are in the risk group for infection (health system facts, or any other group defined as risk by the Ministry of Health) or in the risk group for serious illness (e.g. obesity, pre-gestational diabetes, hypertension). As mentioned, for pregnant women who are not in these risk groups, it was recommended to get vaccinated only from the second trimester. According to experts, this guidance stems from the fact that “the first trimester of pregnancy (regardless of coronary heart disease) is characterized by a relatively high rate of bleeding, miscarriages and the formation of fetal malformations. In order to avoid suspicion, even accidental, between receiving the vaccine and these effects Pregnant women who do not belong to the risk groups are vaccinated starting in the second trimester. “

The recommendation to be vaccinated in two doses was also given to lactating women, as well as to women who are planning to become pregnant or undergoing fertility treatment. A woman who received a first dose of the vaccine and found that she was pregnant – it is recommended to complete the second dose according to the usual schedule.

The document concludes that “due to the severity and severity of coronary heart disease, we reiterate our recommendation to the general population, especially women of childbearing age, pregnant and lactating women to continue to adhere to the rules of social distance and masking, thus reducing the risk of exposure and infection.”
