The German defender is out of contract at the end of the season.
Mikel Arteta wanting Arsenal they are not looking to sell Shkodran Mustafi during the January transfer window.
The German defender is out of contract in the summer and can walk away for free at the end of the season.
Mustafi, 28, has been struggling for minutes this term, having returned to fitness after a horrific injury that saw him rule out of the FA Cup final over Chelsea on 1 August .
Speaking in October he said it would “mean a lot” to stay at Arsenal amid reports that he had turned down a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
This was despite the fact that it was not a permanent game in Arteta’s side, with the Gunners leader having several options at midfield.
However, after William Saliba left on loan and admitted that Sokratis Papastathopoulos international in Greece is going to leave in the coming days, Arteta wants to hold on to Mustafi at this point.
“His future is right now,” the Spaniard replied when asked about the situation with Mustafi.
“I’m trying to help. We have a Papa who is probably going to leave the club in this window, William who is already on loan, so we don’t have that at the moment.
“Gabriel has been out now for a while, David (Luiz) is injured, so the situation is completely different from before.”
After being lost at the start of the current campaign, Mustafi has been largely relegated to cup competitions and has only three appearances as a Premier League so far.
With fellow defenders Rob Holding – who signed a new contract on Tuesday – and Pablo Mari currently enjoying a successful partnership, Arteta admits there have been high-profile opportunities for Mustafi, but he says that his opportunity may still come.

“Musti came back from a very serious injury when he was injured at the end of last season,” he said.
“Until then I think he was doing really well, I think his achievements were growing and getting better and better.
“When he returned it was a moment when we had seven or eight backgrounds so he had to raise his level of performance.
“I physically think he still needed some time, then he started playing some games in Europe which I think he did well too.
“And now it’s about when you take the next step to become a beginner, and the reality is that we need to change for different reasons, using different employees.
“It’s been very close in a few games but now we’ve found a partnership that gives us clean pages and sometimes when you do that it’s hard to change, but it’s still a ‘connspaid. “
