Mike D Beastie Boys is selling an auction of Beasties memorabilia – including gold and platinum records, MTV Video Music Award awards and more – for charity.
The collection includes RIAA Gold and Platinum Sale Awards for classic albums such as ‘Licensed to Ill’ and ‘Paul’s Boutique’, VMA awards for the band’s ‘Intergalactic’ and ‘Sabotage’ clips, and limited print action figures.
All money raised through the auction will go to Good Eats, an organization that provides free weekend meals to children suffering from food insecurity. You can see all 15 listings on Sotheby’s here.
In a post on Instagram, the MC explained that his mother Hester Diamond had so far looked after the various awards and prizes the Beastie Boys have received over the years, but sadly she died in 2020.
“I have never been comfortable holding on to these awards / prizes we have received over the years. Don’t get me wrong – I’m grateful for them, it’s not just something I need to look at, ”wrote Mike Diamond.
“Anyway, I would give them to my mum when they came in and she was happy to get them. Sadly, she died this year. She was an amazing woman, but that’s a whole other story. “
Last year, Beastie Boys shared The story of Beastie Boys, a documentary directed by Spike Jonze about the three featured Diamond and the band Adam Horovitz telling news about their careers.
The film was based off Beastie Boys Book, wrote the 2018 Diamond and Horovitz memoir following the death of his Beastie colleague Adam “MCA” Yauch in 2012.
2020 also saw the release of ‘Beastie Boys Music’, a collection across the major roles of 20 classical songs by the band from all their lives.
