It is reported that Microsoft is working on its Xbox Game Streaming application for Windows devices. The app comes with access to streaming games through its cloud-based streaming service, Project xCloud. The app also gives the ability to stream games in 1080p resolution.
WindowsCentral reveals that the Xbox cloud games were limited to a maximum resolution of 720p for streaming. The HD resolution, however, is also not up to the mark in terms of user experience. The report reveals that the 720p streams look blurry.
The 1080p for xCloud would bring Microsoft’s game streaming service closer to Google Stadia’s “free” series service. The latest update also includes direct token streaming, which is also at 1080p resolution.
The Verge reports that Microsoft is also working on the Xbox remote gaming feature. It will be available for connecting Xbox consoles. The feature seems to work similarly to Microsoft’s standard Console Companion capability. Xbox console users will have the option to wake up remotely. They can sign in and play games away.
The update will also be fully supported. It is likely to help users with Surface or other Windows devices with touchscreen capability to play Xbox games without the need for a controller. According to the report, Microsoft will also provide gyro support. The internal beta shows that the feature is already listed but has not gone fully operational so far, the report said.
Microsoft ‘s continued development of the xCloud comes as Google struggles with its only service, Google Stadia.
Google announced earlier this month that it was closing its indoor games division for Stadia. According to reports, Google developers were not happy with the decision. Interestingly, Google Stadia VP and GM Phil Harrison had praised the staff for the studio’s “huge progress” they made, just a week before they were shut out.
