Microsoft begins testing Dolby Vision for Xbox Series X, S Series titles with limited gamers

As previously promised, Microsoft is finally bringing the Dolby Vision HDR game to its latest game consoles – Xbox Series X and S Series. However, it is currently limited to specific users only and it is part of a verification process. This feature was recently noted by some users, as mentioned by Forbes, when they released the latest Xbox Insider Alpha ring release (2104). For now, this feature is only supported on a few games including Borderlands 3, Gears 5, Halo: Master Chief Collection and Wreckfest. As mentioned in the report, users reported that Dolby Vision’s picture quality was more ‘improved’ compared to HDR10. This is said because of the dynamic data that converts HDR on a frame-by-frame basis.

Microsoft Xbox itself has confirmed to Forbes that it is indeed testing Dolby Vision for the consoles. It has also been said that this feature is coming ‘soon’ but has not yet provided a specific timeline. However, the feature is likely to come this year nonetheless. “As we announced last year, we are thrilled to be supporting Dolby Vision for gaming to our new Xbox consoles in 2021. This feature is currently being tested and we will have more to announcement in terms of time and general accessibility soon, ”the company said in the statement.

It’s worth adding that while Xbox Series X and Series S come with Dolby Vision support, the PlayStation 5 competitor is limited to HDR10 only. However, he may not be a dealer. You would also need compatible TV and support games to get the most out of it.
