Google and Microsoft have drawn knives. Driven in part by pressure from lawyers and regulators over the incredible power the two technology companies expend over American life, the California-based search engine giant and software-based company in Washington wrestling to throw each other under the bus.
Conflict between Microsoft and Google over alphabetical ownership has been raging for some time but the conflict has been surprisingly public in recent days as officials from both companies have protection against competitive grievances.
Google opposes bipartisan complaints – and news journalism – about its role in cracking down on media industry advertising revenues, the subject of a hearing against trust Friday.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is under investigation for its role in backdoor cybersecurity breaches.
Initially, the same Russian spies involved in Texas software company SolarWinds were also taking advantage of Microsoft’s cloud software to hack into some of the clients company. The second, published on March 2, alleged that Chinese spies were abusing unknown vulnerabilities to receive emails from Microsoft customers around the world. .

Google fired back, saying that “Microsoft ‘s new interest in attacking us is on the heels of SolarWinds’ attack and at a moment when they have lost tens of thousands of their customers – including U.S. government agencies, NATO allies, banks, nonprofits, telecommunications providers, public utilities, police, fire and rescue units, hospitals and, presumably, news organizations – to be actively scrutinized through Microsoft’s main vulnerability. “
