MK Michal Shir (Likud) today (Tuesday) submitted her resignation from the Knesset and will probably announce her joining Gideon Saar’s party. Following a dramatic debate in the Knesset, the plenum tonight dropped the bill intended to prevent going to the polls. Following MK Shir’s decision to vote against the proposal, the chairman of the Likud faction, MK Miki Zohar, announced her resignation from the faction.
After the vote, Shir wrote on Twitter: “I agree with my conscience to do the least I can to end this embarrassing show of a stuck and conflicted government that holds an entire country hostage to political seats, so I will resign from the Knesset and join Gideon Saar ‘New Hope.”
In an interview here this morning, the Knesset member said that “I did everything that a person who swears allegiance to the State of Israel should do. Overall, I kept my faith. Today I will submit my resignation letter at 15:15. I did not believe that the law could come up at all.” When asked if she was coordinated with blue-and-white people, she clarified that “I did not know what they were doing, I was debating with myself, I was consulting with people I value, I took responsibility and I voted.”
