Michael Pena replaces Stanely Tucci on director Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall due to UK restrictions

New film Director Roland Emmerich Moonfall has added a few new members, including Michael Pena, who will replace Stanley Tucci who was previously attached.

Tucci, 60, signed into the big budget space drama in October, although Date reports he had to return due to a government-imposed travel ban on UK flights entering Canada.

Pena, 44, joins an all-star ensemble team that also includes Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Eme Ikwuakor, Charlie Plummer and Donald Sutherland.

Moonfall is based on a mysterious force that takes the Moon off its orbit, putting it on a collision course with the Earth that could end humanity as we know it.

The story continues, a ‘ragtag team’ who go into space on a last ditch attempt to save a life as we know it.

The team leaves behind, ‘everyone they love and endangers everything on the surface of the moon and save our planet from destruction .

Pena features Tom Wilson, a wealthy car salesman who is married to Brenda, the ex-wife of Brian Harper (Wilson), played by another new addition, Carolina Bartczak.

Another new addition is Maxim Roy as Gabriella Auclair, a ‘tough army captain’ who will help the heroes on the journey, with Stephen Bogaert playing NASA Director Albert Hutchings.

Lionsgate is releasing the film in North America, which has a 2022 slate, although it is not clear when production will begin.

Emmerich (Independence Day) directs Moonfall from a script he co – wrote with Harald Kloser (2012, 10,000 BC) and Spenser Cohen (Extinction).

The co-writer and director also co-stars Centropolis Entertainment with Kloser for Street Entertainment.

Executive producers are Dennis Wang, James Wang, JP Pettinato, Marco Shepherd, Ute Emmerich, Carsten Lorenz, Stuart Ford, and Karl Spoerri at SPG3 Entertainment and Viviana Vezzani.

Pena comes off Blumhouse Fantasy Island, which hit theaters in February and was one of the last films discussed before the COVID-19 pandemic closed.

He also returned to the small screen, recounting his role as Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena in a program of Narcos: Mexico.

The actor will appear again on the big screen in Warner Bros. ‘Tom and Jerry, with Chloe Moretz, which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max 26 February.
