Mel B has been helping Coronation Street leaders write the story of domestic abuse this year.

The singer told The Sun on Sunday that she met with the soap crew to discuss being in an abstract relationship to help them with Geoff Metcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir’s plot.

Mel, 45, who previously accused her husband Stephen Belafonte of being accused of misconduct, said Yasmeen’s experiences have been portrayed as ‘real life’.

She said: ‘I met the team at Coire and talked to them about what it’s like to live with co-occurrence and PTSD. They were able to write parts of the script because of what I told them.

‘It means a lot to me that what Yasmeen is going through in the show is very real, because we know because of the story that a lot of people living with abuse have reached out to help. get. I like to think I helped shape the scripts. ‘

The story has been one of the greatest soaps in recent history, and as a result Yasmeen (Shelley King) grabbed Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) by the neck with a broken bottle after an abuse campaign in the May this year.

Yasmeen’s suffering was well documented as Geoff abused her physically, sexually, emotionally and financially, while his threatening ways went unnoticed by their neighbors and friends.

On Christmas Day, Coronation Street spectators watched as Yasmeen panicked and thought of Geoff standing in front of her even though he died trying to run from her top.

Mel said it was a situation she recognizes too well, claiming she suffered emotional and forced abuse through her marriage to Belafonte.

She says many of the abuses were recorded, as well as that they were having sex, with Belafonte saying the sex was consensual.

The former couple divorced in 2017, with Mel revealing last year that she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, which could lead to setbacks. as is Yasmeen on Coronation Street.

The singer recounted how she once woke up from a nightmare believing her ex had tried to cut her finger off.

Mel said she didn’t realize how sad she was until her book Brutally Honest was released when she struggled to talk about the alleged abuse at interviews.

She said: ‘I didn’t even realize for so many years that I was in a coercive relationship. It was only by making my book that I began to fully understand the situation in which I lived for ten years. And I know I’m not the only one like that. ‘

Mel said she knows that domestic abuse is something that millions of women around the world experience and that she knows that she will help others by speaking out.

According to the publication, Coronation Street researchers spent two years working with Women’s Aid, where Mel serves as a supporter, to get the story right.

Mel said she jumped at the chance to get involved because she knew the popular soap would reach a large audience.

The singer said she watched some of the events at her home in Leeds where she lives with her three children, including Madison, nine, whom she shares with Belafonte.

The former couple divorced the following year and spent months fighting off an evil court fight before finally reaching a settlement.

Mel has previously said she has been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder since her marriage breakdown in 2016.
