Meet the KFConsole – KFC’s new gaming console

No, this is not a late April Fool’s joke, the “console”KFConsole It is definitely a real product. It’s a collaboration between the KFC gaming brand of the fast food chain KFC and the computing solutions maker Cooler Master, which spawned a small desktop computer that comes in the shape of KFC’s familiar chicken bucket with a “surprise” in the form of a built-in heating chamber designed to keep the roast chicken warm while playing. Have we already said?

While many referred to KFConsole as a joke during June, when the first teaser for the project was unveiled, it’s hard not to admire its unique design now. This is not a real console like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, but a tiny gaming computer designed by the Swedish Tim Malmborg, known as Timpelay, inspired by KFC’s chicken bucket. The device is based on the Cooler Master MasterCase NC100 case and uses the Compute Element Module from Intel’s NUC9 Extreme.

Although the full technical specifications of the new KFConsole are not known, the NUC9 module can come with a processor up to Core i9-9980HK and will be equipped with a pair of Seagate 1TB SSDs and an unknown ASUS graphics card from the GeForce RTX family of Anvidia, when defined by the company as capable of delivering a smooth 4K gaming experience with 240FPS and 240Hz.

So far this is a compact but relatively standard laptop, with the unconventional part coming in the form of the removable compartment built into the computer, designed to keep the heat of the KFC roast chicken in place during the game.

Tim Melmburg who designed and built the KFConsole said:

The hardest part was designing the internal arrangement so that the computer would be as compact as possible and at the same time allow enough cooling for the hardware. The cylindrical bucket shape and the chicken tray are two separate parts with their own challenges. The task gets complicated when combined with a high-performance PC and I spent days building the computer’s 3D model.

While it is likely that the KFConsole PC will not be a commercial product available for purchase on the open market, it is to be expected that the company will grant it as part of some lottery of the KFC Gaming brand.

In contrast to ordinary and rather “boring” computers to which we are all accustomed, models like Tim Malemburg are known for producing computers that are nothing less than a work of applied art, different from the ordinary computer we are all familiar with. However, the KFConsole takes the field one step further when it comes not only to a computer designed like a black KFC chicken bucket, but one that comes with a complete heating compartment for the fly, something you don’t see every day.
