The United Arab Emirates plans to send a spacecraft to Mars and the diversions of the first interplanetary mission in the Arab world are in the hands of women. In an interview with the BBC, scientist Sarah Al-Amiri who is in charge of the mission said the probe took six years to build.

Amiri, the UAE minister of state for Advanced Technology, expressed her concern and said that team has contributed more than six years to the mission which specifically aims to achieve more about the Red Planet. The mission will try to find out the reason behind Mars’ s barren, dusty and polluted environment by closely examining the weather and climate. Once upon a time there were oceans in the Red Planet just like the Earth, what turned it into a dry and dusty planet remains an unsolved mystery.

In the interview, Amiri said that the vastness of the universe and the complexity of space are always enthralled and amazed, thus avoiding her curiosity.

The Mars mission comes as a huge leap for the UAE, which has largely launched satellites into Earth’s orbit. The country’s spaceship, called Hope or “al-Amal” in Arabic, was built with the help of U.S. scientists.

Hopefully a Japanese rocket will be launched and it looks like it will take about seven months to reach the Red Planet. Once there, it binds the planet for an entire Martian year – 687 days. The spacecraft was launched on July 15, 12:51:27 am (UAE time) from Japan’s remote Tanegashima Space Center. The launch was postponed due to bad weather.

“In my heart, I look forward to the 24 hours after the separation, which is where we will see the results of our work,” Amiri said as reported by AFP news agency.
