Max Holloway hosted a concert for the ages against Calvin Kattar Saturday night at UFC Fight Island.
Blessed took the sixth featherweight and lived like his lips as a major barnstorming event, with Holloway stealing the show.
The 29-year-old came to an impressive 445 strike – UFC record – on Kattar over the 25 minutes of action to secure the impact of a unanimous decision, 50-43, 50-43, 50-42.
Holloway now has 17 featherweight wins in the promotion and that is also a record.
UFC president Dana White said he deserves another look at the title next and also revealed he wanted the fight to stop in the fourth round with Kattar doing great damage.
Kattar did not address the media after the fight. He went straight to the hospital instead.
During the fifth round, Holloway started talking to the mid-fight reporters and shouting inside the octagon and from the media tables where we sat, we could hear Holloway calling himself the best boxer in the UFC.
He was in response to Kattar’s suggestion that he was the stronger boxer of the two, but he was talking to Daniel Cormier and Dan Hardy who he could hear talking about him at the edge of the ring.
White mentioned Holloway’s show during the fight at the post-fight press conference.
“Many people we hold in high esteem and experience took this sport Kattar to win tonight. And that giving Kattar the respect he deserves too, will take two big fights. Incredible.
“Holloway fun, man. It’s crazy. I haven’t talked to Max about this and I don’t know if it’s 100 percent true, but I was hearing that he didn’t even explode this camp. So without pushing for this camp and accomplishing like it did, it’s pretty impressive. [He shouted in the cage tonight he was the best boxer in UFC], but he’s one of the best people to fight, time. ”
