Marcella season 3: Casting, plot repetition and filming location

Almost three years after it was finally on our TV screens, Marcella is back.

Featuring Anna Friel as Marcella Backland, the black violence police investigator due to her dissociative identification disorder, the show is one of the darkest and most complex crime scenes out there. sin.

Season 3 promises to take a closer look at her trauma – and it will happen in a new place, as Marcella goes under cover in Belfast.

How did season 2 end?

At the end of the day it was revealed that Jane Colletti – the mother of Marcella’s beloved daughter – was behind the murder of 17 children.

It was also revealed that Marcella accidentally suffered and killed her own daughter. When she found out what she had done in a session with her therapist, she broke down and attacked her colleague Rav after he opened up about her secret – even though it saved her. from jumping off the top of a police station.

We finally saw Marcella sleeping rough under a tunnel, and we were asked to come to an undercover work for the police.

What about Marcella’s season 3?

This season Marcella begins a new life in Belfast as a covert detective. She has taken over Keira’s identity and reunited with the illustrious Maguire family.

Her quest for truth is endangered, and to what extent of the old Marcella did she leave behind?

How to watch Marcella season 3

Marcella returns to ITV at 9pm on Tuesday, January 26. The entire series will then be shown on BritBox.

How many programs are there?

There are eight programs of season 3 – all of which can be seen on BritBox after the first documentary on ITV.

Where was Marcella filmed?

The series was filmed entirely on location in and around Belfast.

Amanda Burton, who joins the series as Katherine Maguire, loved filming in the area.

She said: “I spent a lot of time in a beautiful house that was Katherine’s home. It was wonderful because we were right in the middle of the beautiful country in this rather large house. A real llama was born one morning as we walked past one of the paddles and that was very interesting. We all really wanted to see how the llama did and, safe to say, he was thriving with our past.

“I enjoyed being out on the streets… I really love Belfast and got to know it in a different way than I did before. When I had a day off I would walk around town, chat to people and wake up the local animations. ”

Who’s on the team?

Marcella Backland – Anna Friel

Anna Friel returns to her title role as the big troubled detective. At the end of season two, she was effectively on the verge of striking herself off – and returning under a disguise, Keira Devlin. Keira’s backup is that she was in the police force in Manchester, working her way up to a detective. She was discovered as a corrupt officer and moved back to Northern Ireland, where she used to visit her grandparents when she was younger.

DCI Rav Sangha – Ray Panthaki

Rav was inspired and is a loyal, dedicated officer who goes with the book.

His now strong relationship with Marcella was revealed at the end of season 2, when she almost admitted to him that she had killed her daughter Juliet.

Frank Young – Hugo Spokesperson

We saw a brief in Frank in the final scenes of series two. Marcella was sent after her DNA was found at a house fire in London, as she altered her DNA with a homeless person in row one. Marcella is technically dead – so she’s valuable to the police who want to remove her undercoat.

Katherine Maguire – Amanda Burton

The Waterloo Road and Silent Witness star will take over the role of Katherine, matriarch of the Maguire family. Growing up on the estates, she tries to help the community get involved in charitable and social campaigns – but this hides her true ways.

Her late husband was running a criminal campaign with paramilitary ties in the 90s and although she was led to legitimate activity, she continued the ties she and her husband had developed in the underground.

Finn Maguire – Aaron McCusker

Finn is the middle child of Maguire and works as CEO of the industry. His mother is not happy that he has yet to inherit the family business, and Fionn is almost self-loathing as a result.

Rory Maguire – Michael Colgan

Rory is a reformed germaphobe and the nickname Raw Hands comes from the frequency with which he washes his hands, leaving them raw red.

He is a family lawyer, and has a great mind and picture memory.

Stacey Barrett – Kelly Gough

The youngest daughter of the Maguire family, Stacey is pregnant with a daughter – a source of pride for her mother, but a little insulted by her brothers because Bobby Barrett is the father of the child.

Bobby Barrett – Martin McCann

Getting married into Maguire ‘s family has given Bobby social status longer than he ever imagined. However, the elegant character in which Maguire is born is not and is not cut out for the situation in which he finds himself.

Lawrence Corrigan – Paul Kennedy

Lawrence has worked as a Maguires accountant for several years and is Marcella’s path into the family. He is in a relationship with Marcella and sees a possible future with her.

Will there be season 4?

Probably not – the show ‘s creator, Hans Rosenfeldt, told the Express that the intention is to finish after season 3.

He said: “When we got to series 2, we thought one more would be good because then we could fold it up and bring it home.

“So we were hoping for series 3 when we finished series 2 – but we always – or at least from series 2 – always thought we should do three. It should be a thrilogy but then we do.

“It’s the end of the last episode of series 3.”

Marcella returns to ITV at 9pm on Tuesday, January 26 – after which all eight programs will be available on BritBox.
