Man City player levels: John Stones and Ruben Dias excel against Southampton – Simon Bajkowski

Ederson: Under constant pressure from the outside, he excelled with hands and feet for perhaps his toughest clean sheet of the season. 8

Walker: I enjoyed sliding down the right side translating with Bernardo and showing a colder head than he did last week in the derby. 7

Stones: Get better with the game. Strong and confident performance to steer any risk away from his own box. 8

Dias: This looks good partnership with Clachan, staying uncovered and moving the ball forward slowly. 8

Cancel: His side was focused and Southampton were getting in regularly behind him, but his recovery work was good enough to avoid any major disasters. 7

Rodri: He gave up a difficult start that put himself on the game. City have a better pace and rhythm for their team when Rodri plays with an element of danger. 7

Gundogan: Very busy, getting on regularly with De Bruyne to support the attack. He was not eventually executed but the roles he served were encouraging. 7

De Bruyne: Not everything came off but it is still a heartbeat for the team. Excellent run and cross for Sterling’s goal and it was a full run in the second half. 7

Bernardo: Making his league debut from the Tottenham game, Bernardo was full of energy to trouble the Southampton defense and would rarely lose possession. Played in at least three roles and excelled in all. 8

Sterling: He showed good sense to remove his defender as De Bruyne put the ball into the box and a good tactic to finish first. Aim that would have been given before this season but this is much needed. 7

Manchester City scored three crucial points at Southampton.

Pep Guardiola’s side traveled to face Saints side flying high in the Premier League and coming off the back of a bad draw vs West Brom.

Raheem Sterling’s first-half goal was enough to give the Blues three points. They now prepare to visit Arsenal and bid for a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night.
