Madam’s Prime Minister trailer, starring Richa Chadha, is out. Here, Richa plays the role of a politician in Uttar Pradesh.
The trailer opens with a disclaimer that the film is not based on reality, but it’s hard not to miss the resemblance between the fictional story and the story of CM Mayawati’s previous UP. Like many ‘inspirational’ Bollywood biopics, it will obviously be hagiography as well.
Madam’s Prime Minister is led by Subhash Kapoor who previously led the Jolly LLB franchise. Kapoor used to work as a political commentator in the 90s, so it seems he has used his research from the time for the film.
Commenting on her role, Richa Chadha said in a statement, “This is such an amazing story of an unconventional leader who goes against all rules, all social expectations to be a prime minister like no other. I am so thankful that I found trust in such a relaxed character. As actors, it’s hard to come up with such scripts. I have learned a lot about Indian society and politics through this film. I hope the audience enjoys what we have. ”
Also featuring Manav Kaul, Akshay Oberoi and Saurabh Shukla, Madam’s Prime Minister will release in theaters on January 22nd.
