Lucasfilm says Cara Dune Gina Carano will not be recycled for ‘The Mandalorian’

This week, THR published a behind-the-scenes look at what happened to the shooting of Gina Carano from The Mandalorian, the actress’s result of posting and liking social media posts, sometimes removed later, which some described as transphobic, anti-mask and most recently, anti-Semitic, because she compared critics of criticism to Jews during the Holocaust.

The report says Carano was again warned about her social media issues, and for the most part this was Disney just not wanting to be involved in controversy. The original report said it there were Cara Dune would appear to have been redesigned by Carano away for “story and commercial reasons.” Later, however, that was updated to feature a Lucasfilm spokesperson saying that Carano’s Dune no redesign after all. It is not yet clear whether Carano intended to star as Dune in Rangers of the New Republic, another upcoming company from Mandalorian.

Nonetheless, Dune was basically a side character on the show. More prominent than most, of course, and appear more often. But the Mandalorian has at least a half-dozen recurring guest stars, and as I said last week, it has the ability to do Dune transitions already on the show as Cobb Vance Timothy Olyphant no Mandalorian Koska Reeves Sasha Banks. It’s easy enough to imagine how the show could have continued without Dune’s character, and her redesign would only pay more attention to Carano’s obvious absence.

The Mandalorian was a big break for Carano, who had embarked elsewhere after her MMA career in films like Haywire, Deadpool and Fast & Furious 6. And it is certainly possible that it was expected that she could direct her own Rangers series. Now, after his shooting, guards are upholding Carano as a “destroy culture” priest, and her next film project has been announced to be joined by controversial right-handed right-handed woman Ben Shapiro, someone not famous for… making Hollywood movies.

As for the Mandalorian itself, the third season is currently in limbo. Boba Fett Book will take over its air slot next winter, and season 3 is set to be beyond. Mandalorian director Pedro Pascal has just signed up to appear in the HBO video game adaptation series The Last of Us as a lead there as well, Joel, which could be part of the next film season.

It’s unclear where the show is set to go after the memorable final in which the Mandalorian (spoilers) give Grogu (Baby Yoda) to Luke Skywalker who is not old for Jedi training. It looks like he may have to keep dealing with Bo-Katan and Moff Gideon as we find out the current state of the Mandalorian home, which Mando intends to technically lead, which -now that he has defeated the Darksaber in combat. But I would expect that we didn’t see the last one of Grogu either (even though we saw the last one of Cara Dune).

It may be a long time before we learn anything about it next season, and if Dune is written off in a certain way, or just disappears. More to come.

I have tried to contact Carano and her camp for comments, and will update if I hear back.
