Jasper Wiese of Leicester was suspended for four weeks and teammate Hanro Liebenberg for two weeks after an online disciplinary hearing.

Wiese was sent off for dangerous play after he grabbed the head of an opposing player and Liebenberg to engage in the jersey, Josh Bassett, against the Wasps on Saturday.

Kieran Brookes Wasps was suspended for three weeks for a dangerous attack on Tomas Lavanini of Leicester in the same game.

The three players were shown a red card by referee Craig Maxwell-Keys and accepted the allegations.

An independent panel statement said: “Jasper Wiese admitted to committing the offense of dangerous play in ruck or maul, contrary to law 9.20a by contacting the Wasps player boss.

“The Wasps player had a head injury assessment and it was appropriate to return to play in the game, and subsequent investigations showed no injuries.

“As this was an act of deceptive play that led to head contact, there was a need for at least a mid-range entry point with Rule 19 RFU.

“This was proven to be a mid-range entry point for six weeks. It was common ground that there were no vegetative factors.”

The statement said: “Hanro Liebenberg admitted that he had committed the offense of handling the jersey in the air, against law 9.17 when he had contacted a Wasps player who was in the air.

“When he fell to the ground, the Wasps player got his hands over his head to avoid injury when he landed and continued to play and is still fit to play.

“This has been confirmed as a four-week low-level entry point. A full 50 percent discount has been imposed. As a result a two-week sanction has been suspended. The player has been suspended. until March 8 and will be free to play on March 9, 2021. “
