The festive period in English football has arrived and the Boxing Day cycle is underway. Liverpool, aiming for a second straight win in the English Championship, have a pretty comfortable rival in Boxing Day – West Bromwich Albion – which they will host tomorrow (Sunday) at Anfield.
Liverpool opened a pretty comfortable gap at the top – of four points – thanks to the win over Tottenham and the Roosters’ loss of points against Leicester. To its credit is also the traditional “statistic” that whoever reaches the Christmas rounds at the top wins the English Championship, but only last year the Hoods were able to complete the task out of the five times they led the table at Christmas. Thiago Alcantara, who has returned to training, is still not fully fit and will not take part in the game against the Baggies, but James Milner and Chardin Shakiri may be included in the squad.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have quite a few thoughts about the future and especially about Muhammad Salah who has been reportedly interested in leaving in the summer. “If anyone wants to leave Liverpool, we will not stand in his way, but the only reason to do so is the weather, otherwise what reason is there?”, Jurgen Klopp claimed at the press conference ahead of West Bromwich Albion.
“We may not pay the most, but our players make good money. We have an amazing stadium and crowd and fan bases around the world,” Klopp added. “We make changes and add players and if someone wants to leave it is impossible to bring him back by force. Salah’s level of motivation is very high. He keeps himself in great shape and works hard in training.”
Jurgen Klopp: “We could all look for something else if we want. But I think the only reason to leave Liverpool at the moment is the weather. What other reason could be there? This is one of the biggest clubs in the world. ” #awlfc [mail] pic.twitter.com/KvSERWYsdy
