Leading candidate: Alona Barkat will meet with Roni Levy

Beginning of an article

After Aliniv Barda announced that he would continue as a professional manager, Hapoel Beer Sheva marked their favorite for the position of coach. Roni Levy was invited today (Sunday) to a meeting with owner Alona Barkat and he may be the replacement for Yossi Aboksis who left unexpectedly. It should be noted that both Sharon Mimar and Marco Belbul are still in the picture.

Levy, 54, began his coaching career in the youth department of Maccabi Haifa, when in the summer of 2003 he was promoted to the senior team – and won three consecutive championship titles with the club (2004, 2005, 2006). This was the highlight of his career, after which he coached in a variety of clubs such as Betar Jerusalem (three different terms), Steaua Bucharest, Onira Orzicny, Anorthosis Famagusta, Maccabi Petah Tikva – and also returned for another term in Haifa, with which he also won the State Cup in the 2015 / 16.

Earlier, Barda issued an official statement: “After much deliberation and consultation with my family and doctors, I have decided at this stage to remain in my role as assistant coach and continue to develop as a professional manager. It is a great privilege for me to belong to the club. I will continue to focus on team success and goals.”

As you may recall, the 39-year-old Barda retired at the end of the 2017/18 season and has since taken part in the club’s professional team, first as a professional manager, and then also as an assistant coach – both of Barak Bachar and of Yossi Aboksis, who came after him. After Aboksis’ resignation, Breda jumped to the lines (along with another assistant, Maor Melikson) – and they are the ones who led BS in the last four rounds. In these games, by the way, BS won a single game, lost two and finished another in a draw.

In another matter, a calming siren was sounded at Hapoel Beer Sheva with the news of Sean Goldberg’s condition. The defender was diagnosed with a torn muscle in his groin, rather than a tendon tear as initially thought. This means that the left defender will return in about a month. In addition, the ultrasound examination that Cynthiahu Sallich underwent showed that his return to the pitches was early. The relationship will be absent for another three weeks from now.
