The broadcaster is remembered by Larry King ‘s sons as a “wonderful father” and “very loyal” after his death at the age of 87.
The former U.S. talk show guest was famous for his shows featuring CNN ‘s Larry King Live which he held from 1985 to 2010.
He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, shortly after a Covid-19 was reported.
A statement from Larry King Jr., Chance King and Cannon King, shared on their father’s Facebook page, said: “We are heartbroken at our father’s death, and with our extended family mourn his passing. passed.
“Larry King was well known to the world as a good broadcaster and interviewer, but for us he was a ‘father’.
“He was the man who sincerely looked after our daily records and our well-being, and was so proud of our achievements – big, small or imaginative.
“And, through it all, we knew with certainty that the world loved us more than life itself.
“He was a wonderful father, and was very loyal to those who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. We miss him every day of our lives.
“We have been deeply moved by the love and memories of his remarkable career and we are so grateful.
“Instead of flowers, we kindly want to consider a donation to the American Heart Association or EMS Beverly Hills Fire Department, indebted for the wonderful care they have given our father in his later years. “
The news of King’s death was shared on his Twitter page by Ora Media, the studio and network he co-founded in 2012.
The statement said: “For 63 years and across radio, television and digital media platforms, Larry has received thousands of interviews, awards and global acclaim as a testament to his unique and enduring talent as a broadcaster.
“Furthermore, although his name appeared in the titles of the shows, Larry always regarded his interview subjects as the real stars of his programs, and himself as just a graveyard or between the guest and the audience.
“He believed that accurate questions usually provided the best answers, and he was not wrong in that belief. “
Over the years King has interviewed some of the biggest names around the world including former US president Bill Clinton, singer Frank Sinatra and also Sir Paul McCartney at the Beatles and Ringo Starr.
After his show moved from Washington DC to Los Angeles, he made headlines with his interviews with the likes of Paris Hilton, after she was released from prison.
The celebrity interviewer announced his retirement from CNN after celebrating 25 years at the network in June 2010.
He was replaced by British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who hosted the show until 2014.
King ‘s health issues over the years included suffering a major heart attack in the late 1980s, which led to quintuple bypass surgery.
He was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and in 2017 told CNN that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
He was married eight times to seven different women, most recently with country singer and actress Shawn Southwick.
The couple married in 1997 and the couple filed for divorce in 2010. The filing was then postponed just for the divorce again in 2019.
Last year King lost his two eldest children, Andy King and Chaia King, who died of unrelated health problems within weeks of each other.
