The show was definitely one of the best I used on a 300Hz gaming laptop to be buttery smooth, especially when I was playing titles like Valorant or Rocket League. The panel brightness at 300 nits felt a bit low in comparison, but overall this was a good panel.

A webcam doesn’t appear on screen, but the laptop comes with a clip-on camera, which is reasonable enough for someone who wants to try streaming a game.

One area where it is less narrow is the choice of RGB LED elements around the device. The front part has a series of LEDs under the wrist muscle that are compatible with the RGB LED keyboard and if you are someone who is playing in a dark dark state, the LEDs will the feeling situation is good.

In terms of performance, this device packs quite a punch. The variant I got my hands on was powered by an AMD Ryzen R9-5900HX portable level processor.

With all settings augmented, Cyberpunk, a game that is still poorly developed, managed to manage a good 60-70fps. Another heavily powered game, Assassin’s Valhalla Creed also ran on the machine offering frame rates of 65 to 70 fps. Control – a game that is one of the best ray detection in-game, with maxed-out options running at 68-72fps. Forza Horizon 4 also ran at 60fps straight with all settings ultra.

Surprisingly, despite running games with power, the laptop managed to keep cool. It is partly due to Asus’ novel fan fan design that allows colder air to channel in while efficiently blowing out the warm air, and to some extent as a result of using melting metal instead of the regular thermal fertilizer – all this while not making it sound like a jet engine, which was commendable.

Coming to battery performance, the 90WHrs, 4-cell Li-ion battery on the Asus Strix Scar 17 was easily capable of delivering 3-4 hours at a single charge for causal web browsing, video streaming and other basic functions, which is reasonable, coming from a gaming laptop.
