Lampard admits Chelsea are struggling to lose ‘some of the basics’ amid poor form run

The Blues midfielder is set to fight for his career, having lost five of the club’s last eight Premier League games.

Undercover Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted his side have “lost some of the basics” as their difficult form continues.

Lampard has seen his career questioned amid Chelsea’s relegation, as the Blues have dropped to ninth in the Premier League roster after losing five of their last eight league games.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup game against Luton Town on Sunday, Lampard said while his team’s identity has not changed, a lack of results means they need to get back to basics.

“It’s interesting, because when you’re playing well and winning, your identity is very clear and it’s something you want to shout from the top,” Lampard said.

“And when you’re not playing well, people question your identity, especially when you’re a relatively new manager.

“So it’s important that I’m the one who has that love and who says, ‘Hey, lads, the things that we did well, the identity that we had winning games for us, it hasn’t changed, but we have to go back to something because we’ve lost some of the basics. ‘”

Chelsea’s latest case in a 2-0 loss to Leicester City came on Tuesday, and Lampard admitted he hopes to put the same point in his side as Leicester appear to be based on an interview from after the game with midfielder James Maddison.

“I thought it was a really important thing when I listened to James Maddison speak after the Leicester game and he talked about Brendan Rodgers, a coach that I really respect,” Lampard said. .

“The message was, ‘If you don’t run, you won’t play. ‘

“If I want to start my acquaintance, that’s how I start it. From the moment I joined this club it was, ‘Can we run and be really good and effective off the ball and on the ball? Can we have energy in the team? ‘

“That’s the first thing I want to see and it’s something we’ve definitely fallen for, there’s no doubt about that. “

While Lampard is in a difficult time, he also took the opportunity to offer some insight. As a high-paying coach of a major football club, Lampard said he would never go against the same strain and so many suffer among coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s a very important point. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a Chelsea manager and a Chelsea fan, and who wouldn’t be excited about that view?” Lampard said.

“So I do that in those difficult times and I can come to work and put on this outfit and feel proud to wear it, while in which many people are suffering across the country, all over the world, people have been dying, every day the numbers are going up.

“And when I see that and feel that, we all hope that we have the compassion to look around clearly and see that people are losing their jobs. People are struggling with their livelihoods and that is a great reflection of the so – called pressures or struggles.

“I really mean that. I want to be successful, so when we go through running games and we don’t win, I look for the solutions and the answers, and I fight for them.

“And then I expect that from the players on the pitch. But that’s not the worst pressure, that’s a good weight, I enjoy doing that with my life and the vision of what’s going on in the world is huge. ”
