Today (Monday) the Lakers announced that former player Algin Baylor has passed away at the age of 86, when he died of natural circumstances, as defined by the team. Baylor played for the Lakers from 1958 to 1971 and remained in the league after his retirement, as the Jazz coach from 1976 to 1979 and the Clippers’ manager from 1986 to 2008.

During his time as a Baylor player he was one of the standout stars of the Lakers and the NBA, being selected 10 times to the top five in the league (Kobe Bryant, Carl Malone and LeBron James the only ones selected more than once), 11 times to the All-Star and the 35 and 50 greatest players of The best league in the world.

Baylor held the record for points per game ahead of Wilt Chamberlain with 61 such, scoring 27.4 points with 13.5 rebounds throughout his career. He was part of the big rivalry between the Lakers and the Boston Celtics in the 1960s, when Baylor and teammate Jerry West reached the final 8 times but did not win. In his final seasons Baylor has played alongside West and Chamberlain. He was a member of the Hall of Fame.
