Following the announcement of the intention to do so, almost six months ago, today (Monday) the ceremony was held to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and Kosovo – for the first time through the “Zoom” video calling system. The ceremony began at 3:30 p.m., during which the Secretary of State will sign Gabi Ashkenazi, And Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Melissa Hardinai on the agreement establishing international relations.
During the ceremony, Ashkenazi said, “We know the price of war. Israel wants the Balkan countries to be stable, Israel defines Serbia as a close friend and we will work to continue to support this peace.” He added: “We will also work together on everything related to the corona plague.”
As you may recall, former US President Donald Trump announced in early September last year that Serbia would move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. He also announced that under an agreement with the United States, Kosovo would officially recognize the State of Israel, and vice versa.
The announcements came as part of a normalization agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, which Trump announced. The president of Kosovo, accused Tachi, welcomed the agreement in a Twitter tweet and pledged that the Kosovo embassy in Israel would also be established in Jerusalem.
