Kindergartens: Experts are called upon to open kindergartens in yellow and green localities

Experts from the Hebrew University published a position paper today (Thursday), in which they called for the “immediate opening of kindergartens in green and yellow localities, while adopting the rules of hygiene.” The experts also recommended that the first step to be taken with the reduction in morbidity is to open up the entire education system.

The experts also argued that the completion of the vaccination campaign should be encouraged for all education workers, 11th and 12th grade students, and that the isolation policy in education frameworks should be changed.

“In view of the increase in infection in the third wave of the epidemic,” the experts wrote, “we have examined whether there is a need to change our approach.Call for a careful and differential opening of education frameworks as soon as possible“.

The authors of the position paper noted the change in the nature of infections in the third wave, and highlighted two main differences: The first is that the relative share of children in morbidity increased: Relatively protected. ” However, they clarified that “there is no clear evidence that the increase in infection among children is reflected in an increase in the rate of severe morbidity among them.”

The second difference is an increase in the relative share of women in morbidity: “In almost all age groups we see a greater increase in women compared to men.” They attribute the increase to the period of closure and confinement in homes. “The infection occurred in households and probably at high rates in the large and crowded households, including the ultra-Orthodox population.”

In light of the above, the experts called for the opening of kindergartens and the education system as soon as possible: “Their closure in homes, as well as the damage to parents and especially to mothers who will be forced to stay with them, will undoubtedly increase to the extent that the educational frameworks remain closed.”
