Killian Hayes leaves early after being injured

Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes suffered a sprained right ankle Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors and was eventually ruled out of no return, the team announced during the game.

Hayes went scoreless in 17 minutes of work through the 116-106 loss as he missed all four bullet attempts from the field. Pistons head coach Dwane Casey said after the game that Hayes tried to play through the injury in the second half but was unable to keep going.

The 19-year-old will be considered day-to-day after the game.

Hayes has started in each of Pistons ’four games to this point, averaging five points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 21.8 minutes per game. The Pistons play the next day on New Year’s Day, which will give Hayes a little extra time to get treated and rest on his right finger.

Detroit fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss but kept the game nearly halfway through the fourth quarter. Casey said the team made several late rookie mistakes but were happy with how his squad died all afternoon.
