Mel Reid of England moved into a tie for second place at the Kia Classic ahead of the final round, five hits back from director Inbee Park.

The 33-year-old mixed two birds and a bogey on opening three holes and carding a nine-chance back for an under-71 to turn seven for the tournament.

Park, who are fourth in the world and making their first LPGA Tour of the season, went round in 69 for the second straight round to lead at 12 under, while Reid South Korean partner Mi Jung Hur and Minjee Lee of Australia for company.

“She (Inbee Park) has got a five-shot lead, so I have to do something special to make it tomorrow,” Reid said at the end of the game.

“I think tomorrow the game plan is to play aggressively and have nothing to lose, and I’m going to try to get as close as I can to Inbee.

“But she’s an incredible golfer and she’s going to be hard to hit. She won’t make any mistake.”

Jin Young Ko, Lexi Thompson and Madelene Sagstrom finished at the top of the day six under with Sagstrom getting the day’s round, getting over an opening double bogey for 64.

The Swede followed the double bogey with birdies on seven of the next eight holes and had four birdies and a bogey behind nine.
