Khabib Nurmagomedov’s takedown record was smashed by a UFC fighter who was a surprise in 2020

A rather impressive fighter broke Khabib Nurmagomedov’s takedown record in the UFC in 2020. Merab Dvalishvili now holds the record for the highest number of thakedowns landed in UFC fights in a particular year.

ESPN MMA has revealed the above fact through its official Twitter account. The tweet is based below:

Merab Dvalishvili landed on 27 takedowns in the UFC fights with which he competed last year. Dvalishvili’s outstanding achievements through 2020 earned him a reputation as being a fighter with the highest number of grounded thakedowns in UFC fights in a particular year.

UFC bantamweight rival Dvalishvili competed three times in the UFC in 2020. He defeated all three of his opponents through a unanimous decision. His most recent fight was a win over John Dodson in August 2020.

The takedown record was previously held by none other than MMA legend and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who came to 26 takedowns in 2013. The Eagle now sits at No. 2 on this list of energy- famous UFC actors.

In addition, position No. 3 is a link, between Rashad Evans and Gleison Tibau. Evans came to 24 takedowns in his UFC fights in 2006, but Tibau matched his record by landing 24 takedowns in an octagonal look in 2009.

Fifth on this list belongs to intermediate UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington. The welterweight star reached 23 takedowns in 2016 and holds the No. 5 position on this list.
