Kevin Bacon is delighted to hone his skills in the timely political drama ‘City On A Hill’

Kevin Bacon is sure he was involved in acting to experience playing a mix of characters, no matter how good the character’s moral code is.

“One of the things I love about being an actor is sharing all the different aspects of people’s ability. So to limit those opportunities by saying, ‘Yeah, well, I don’t want to play racism or sexual crime or murder,’ [then I’m going to run] out of jobs, ”he explains.

He also says, “I don’t think about my personal image when I take a job. I just want to get into someone’s shoes that I haven’t stepped into before. ”

Getting different responsibilities has never been easy, says Bacon. “Hollywood doesn’t want you to do more than one thing. In the theater, where I started out, I was able to play all sorts of different guys, while my lab was good. After [the movie] Footloose came out, it was, like, ‘Well, we’ll see. Can we have another [like that]? ‘And for me, that was the real difference I had been to him.’

For his latest gig, Bacon will play the corrupt FBI producer Jackie Rohr in the series City on a Hill.

Season two of the series, set in the ’90s, is based on a federal housing project in the Roxbury area of Boston that is plagued by drug violence and proper reliance on local law enforcement.

Bacon refers to Jackie saying, “He’s shy, of course, he is, and in many ways. To move the point home, he said, “I feel like you think Jackie is doing the right thing, you may need to examine yourself, and in fact, that’s you. ”

But Bacon thinks he has a grip on this character because, “after living the first season in Jackie’s skin, I like to wonder if I really understand character, that you can throw anything at me, and I can live in that moment like that man. ”

He says, “I have played not one, but two pedophiles. [So] I am not afraid to do anything. ”

This season, Bacon is also taking over as director.

When asked if he had received any advice from his wife over 30 years, Kyra Sedgwick, who is an Emmy nominated director, and who directed the season of one program of City on a Hill, Bacon replied, “We have conversations about almost everything. That’s just the way it is. You go to work, and you come home, and you talk about it. I think it was fun to have shared that. I didn’t lead last season until I saw her and saw what the experience was like. “

Commenting on the series’ statement, executive producer Tom Fontana says, “It was originally thought that each season would be about a different neighborhood in Boston. Boston has a lot of neighborhoods, so we have a lot of room to maneuver over time. I hope we can explore all neighborhoods. ”

Speaking about writing scripts this season and keeping them on time, Fontana explained the process, saying, “We had found out the story we were telling about the Roxbury style before -summer [of 2020 involving George Floyd and the protests against racism], however, we went back and did another version of each script to make sure we were reflecting what was going on in America now but with the view that it was in the ’90s. In other words, we could not say things like ‘defund the police’ or ‘Black Life matter’ because these conditions did not exist in the 1990s, but we tried to identify these situations as appropriate. the best we could. ”

But Fontana is clear though as he submits the statement City on a Hill with elements of the present day, there is little effort to manipulate the audience. “I don’t think our job is to be polemic. I think the minute a TV series starts preaching, it almost loses all universality. ”

He confirms his point, saying, “Our job is to tell the best story we can and we hope it [people] affected. We’re just trying to tell the truth for the time being and we hope it reflects the world we live in now. ”

‘City on a Hill’ will be played Sunday nights at 10e / p on Showtime.
