The opening round of the Magical Kenya Open at the Europe Tour will take place on Thursday without TV coverage due to “supply problems” in Nairobi.

The tournament is the first of a number of backstage events in Nairobi over the next 10 days, with Karen Country Club also hosting the Kenya Savannah Classic from Tuesday 23 March to Friday 26 March.

The event will still start as planned on Thursday, despite a lack of televised coverage, with European Tour Productions (ETP) hoping to offer global live coverage – used by Sky Sports and broadcast partners global – for the last three rounds.

In a statement to broadcasters, ETP said: “Due to resource supply problems beyond our control, we will unfortunately not be able to deliver global live coverage on the first day of the Kenya Magical Competition. presented by Johnnie Walker on Thursday 18 March 2021.

“We are working to resolve the situation as soon as possible, and we hope to be in a position to deliver a live broadcast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as usual. We will keep you informed of any relevant developments.

Guido Migliozzi returns as a defensive champion, after a one-shot win in 2019, with last year’s competition postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Other famous names in action include Aaron Rai, Sam Horsfield and former Ryder Cup star Jamie Donaldson.

As long as the procurement issues in Kenya are resolved, Sky Sports Golf will have live coverage from the final three rounds as scheduled. Due to the non-availability of Thursday’s European Tour action, Group Honda Classic’s live broadcast will now start at 11.30am earlier.
