Somewhere, Jrue Holiday seems to be going for an agreement.
Every man, teach one.
On Thursday, Kelly Oubre met with reporters in San Francisco and, as usual, submitted questions.
For Warriors fans who aren’t too familiar with the 15th overall selection from the 2015 NBA Draft, Oubre won first round minutes with the Washington Wizards – the team that climbed him – thanks to his pesky on-ball defense.
Since then, he’s slowly but surely growing into an offensive weapon, but he still hangs his hat on his defense. Its late length and speed make it particularly effective in defending counter-point guards, and it is something that has been consistent in each of its two career stops before it came on. land with the Warriors.
In San Francisco, he plans to continue his defensive pursuits, saying so much on Thursday.
“I like it, it’s fun for me,” Oubre told reporters when asked what it’s like to defend point guards.
“I’m a 6-foot-7, 7-foot-2 wing, a lot of point guards are definitely smaller than me. It’s great to keep up with the little boys fast and they’re kinda tempted. ”
Knowing he needs to speed on his own, however, Oubre plans to count the pitch on the defensive end. Without Klay Thompson, after all, Steve Kerr will definitely need him to score some points.
Often, when players are asked which of their peers they have inspired, their competitive nature does not allow them to provide such credit. Probably because 25 – year – old Oubre, however, decided to nod to two of his predecessors: Jrue Holiday Milwaukee Bucks and Avery Bradley at Miami Heat. Oubre described watching Bradley “all his life,” which tolerably (and harmlessly) reveals that the 30-year-old guard is a little longer in the tooth than Oubre himself.
Holiday, which Oubre gave the most credit for, is also 30 years old. Oubre 25.
“Jrue Holiday is one person to whom I always give credit,” Oubre said when asked to identify defenders from whom it will inspire.
“He’s a great protector because he knows where to put his body in places so he doesn’t waste movement. He knows how to get through screens, how you can push through, things like that. “
Oubre also paid great respect to Bradley.
“I can just watch it grow all its life. He’s definitely someone I look at on the defensive end to be a good defender right away. ”
While most think of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson taking three-point blows down on opposing defenses when they think of the Warriors ’success, before the season ends. past, they were among the top defensive teams in the NBA.
If they want to get back to that level, they need commitment and buy-in from their important pieces.
It is safe to say that we now know where Oubre stands.
