Two successes for the Israeli sailing team were recorded today (Wednesday) in the Portuguese Grand Prix, the preliminary competition for the European and World Championships to be held next week. Katie Spichkov from the Eilat Sailing Club, and the mixed crew Nitai Hasson and Saar Tamir from the Sdot Yam Sailing Club, won the gold medals at the end of three days of cruising.
Spichkov, who has already secured herself the Olympic ticket in the RSX model, has demonstrated dominance throughout the days of the competition, finishing two cruises in first place and two in second place and not dropping from fourth place in all competition cruises.
The mixed pair of sailors, Hasson and Tamir, also finished the competition in first place, with twenty points, a point difference from second place. This is the first international competition in 470 in a mixed model, which will enter the Olympic Games in Paris for the first time in 2024. This coming Monday, the European Championship in RSX surfboards and the World Championship in 470 sailboats will also begin at the same place.
