Philippine 7-foot-3 basketball star Kai Sotto is hoping to return to G League Ignite in the NBA G League bubble in Orlando.
Last month Sotto opted out of the G League bubble to travel to the Philippines and play with the Gilas for their games in the FIBA Asia Cup. But after the event was postponed, Sotto chose to return to the US and go back to Ignite.
It is not clear when he will play because he needs to clean up Covid ‘s quarantine and protocols.
“I hadn’t had any conversation about that,” Ignite coach Brian Shaw said Monday after a 97-90 win over Iowa. “I’m worried about coaching the boys we have here so I’m sure our front office will take care of us and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. ”
ESPN previously reported that Sotto was on its way back to the U.S. to link with Ignite.
“We are working with him and his group in the US to ensure the time is right to join his Ignite team,” Butch Antonio, Executive Director for Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), told ESPN .com
“We must remember that even before all these things happened, when he was planning to enter the NBA and when he planned his foreign tour, especially when he first went to America, it is clear that every time the country needs it, it will not refuse to represent the country with the national team, “he said.
Without Sotto, Ignite is set to start 4-0 behind stars Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, both NBA lottery predictors.
