Juventus made a mistake by signing Ronaldo – Cassano

The Portuguese superstar has not been able to move Juve to Champions League glory since joining Madrid in 2018

Former Italy international Antonio Cassano has said signing Cristiano Ronaldo has been proven a mistake by Juventus.

The Portuguese superstar arrived in Turin in 2018 with the goal of leading Juventus to Champions League glory.

That goal remains unfulfilled, and Cassano feels Juve made a mistake in signing a five-time Ballon d’Or winner from Real Madrid.

What was said?

“Juventus have signed to win the Champions League, but they have been made worse by what they have done before,” said Cassano. Sport Corriere dello.

“They would have won the Scudetto [Serie A title] without. It was the wrong project.

“He will continue to have goals because he knows how to do it no matter what. He cuts in from the left, gets the ball on his right leg and fires it inside. Its heads are unique.

“But [head coach Andrea] Pirlo wants to pick up the play, put pressure on the front and play between the lines, which means Cristiano is not much involved.

“I think it will be done badly if they can’t win the Champions League.”

Ronaldo’s record at Juventus

The 36-year-old has won back-to-back Serie A titles with Juventus, along with two Supercoppas, and was named Serie A player of the year in 2019.

However, in his two Champions League seasons with the club, they were beaten in the semi – finals and round of 16.

In the current campaign, Juventus follow Porto 2-1 after the first leg of their last-16 tie, with the second leg happening on March 9th.
