Julis: The former head of the council was convicted of murder, the prosecution appealed

The Criminal Department of the State Attorney’s Office today (Thursday) appealed to the Supreme Court against the sentence of former Julis Council Chairman Salman Amer, who was convicted of the murder of the late Munir Nabuani and sentenced to only 20 years in prison. According to them, the punishment “is far from defeating the circumstances of the offense, when it comes to murder with intent to kill and while confirming the killing.”

In the notice of appeal, the prosecution sought to aggravate the sentence of imprisonment imposed on the accused. According to her, the circumstances of the offense and the degree of guilt of the former head of the Julis Council are at the top of the offense and therefore it was not right to deviate from the fixed sentence on the side of the offense to such an extent – life imprisonment.

The verdict determined that Salman Amar, pulled out a weapon, through it and fired seven bullets at the head and upper body of the late Nabuani, amid a dispute between the two. The district court rejected Amar’s claims that he acted in self-defense, and further rejected his claim for loss of memory and ruled that the defendant fired seven bullets with full awareness and intent to kill, and even verified killing when the murdered man was already falling to the ground with his back to the defendant.

However, the district court ruled that there was doubt as to whether the act was committed after planning and after an actual procedure of weighing and formulating a decision to kill, and therefore ruled that it was not aggravated murder and sentenced Amer to only 20 years in prison.
