Journalist Mike Carnon passed away today (Thursday) at the age of 85. Carnon, a veteran sports journalist, worked for Yedioth Ahronoth and later on also served as a spokesman for the Basketball Association and Maccabi Tel Aviv until 2006.
Carnon was known as a die-hard fan of the Yellows, and helped the club over the years. In 1972 he co-produced with the club the first program for international games, which over the years has become one of the familiar symbols for fans who come to the Euroleague games on Thursdays at Menora Mivtachim Hall.

Maccabi Tel Aviv paid tribute to Carnon: “The Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club bows its head over the passing of Mike Carnon, who accompanied the team for decades and also served as Maccabi’s press officer. Mike was one of the first and most senior sports journalists, pioneers of media in sports organizations and an exceptional expert in the field in general and in the history of Maccabi in particular. May his memory be blessed”.
The association also paid tribute to Carnon: “The basketball association mourns and bows its head due to the passing of Michael (Mike) Carnon, one of the first and top sports journalists in Israel, served as spokesman for the basketball association for many years and later as spokesman for the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club.
