Jose Mourinho: Klopp should not have won FIFA’s Best Manager of the Year

Jose Mourinho puts an end to word war with Jurgen Klopp again as Tottenham boss suggests his rival should not win FIFA’s Best Manager of the Year award

Jose Mourinho had another clever dig at Jurgen Klopp by suggesting he should not be voted as head coach at this week’s FIFA Best Football Awards.

Just days after Klopp was told he was ‘the best losing team’ after beating Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield with Liverpool, Mourinho was on the front leg again on Friday.

Asked what he thought of the Klopp award, he said he thought Bayern Munich coach Hans-Dieter Flick should be won instead.

‘I think the only chance for Flick to win is if Bayern find him two or three new tournaments to win,’ Mourinho said.

‘So maybe if he wins seven titles in one season, he might win the award.

‘I believe he only won the Champions League, the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the European Super Cup and the German Super Cup.

‘He only won five, including the biggest of them all.

‘Poor flick. I think this is the only chance for Bayern to find two or three more trophies to see if he can win. ‘Klopp himself was surprised to win the award, on display in Zurich.

The Liverpool manager later said: ‘I don’t know why people voted for me. Flick deserved it for his titles. ‘
