As Donald Trump’s presidency officially ends with Joe Biden embarking on Launch Day – January 20, 2021 – it is true that there will be a good amount of asteroid traffic near our planet in the -hours up to and with the historical movement of power. in Washington, DC
But what many of the tabloid headlines pointing out this cosmic reality out this week neglects to mention is that this is quite unusual at all.
Fewer than eight asteroids will fly with our planet within 24 hours of the time President-elect Biden is to be sworn in Wednesday, according to NASA’s official catalog. And there’s always a chance we’ll get a new asteroid or two as they approach that day.
But does all this space traffic represent a kind of catastrophe ordered by the gods or perhaps with Nostradamus in anticipation? I don’t know, but I do know that 14 asteroids made nearly 48 hours in the near-Earth.

So that’s almost twice as many asteroid fly trips in the same period, and no one wrote anything about it. In fact, it has happened quite recently: yesterday and the day before.
It’s a bit like saying that 8 million lightning strikes are expected to hit our planet on Trust Day and play it as a kind of clear instrument. If you follow along, you may have already estimated that the average number of lightning strikes seen on our planet each day is 8 million lightning strikes.
So this ban of cosmic interveners is not going on at a crucial time for American democracy.
There was one famous asteroid that survived Monday, however. Asteroid 2021 BO is a recently discovered and orbited space rock within about 14,000 miles of our planet. That’s closer to the altitude where a lot of communications satellites are moving.
That’s certainly a close pass, but it’s actually just the sixth closest pass with an asteroid in the past year, and of all these interesting places, 2021 BO was the smallest at just about one meter across.
To summarize, a fairly average number of asteroids will pass near Earth on Earth. A tiny asteroid was known to be close to starting Start Week, but even if it had hit Earth, it would have been easily destroyed in the atmosphere.
So really, when it comes to Wednesday, nothing will be worth coming out of space.
