New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has tested positive for Covid-19, the team announced Thursday.

Giants tight end coach Freddie Kitchens will now serve as the team’s infamous player on Sunday night against former team-mate Cleveland Browns, of whom he was head coach in 2019.

“We are currently working with the league’s chief medical officer on close ties,” the Giants said in a statement. “Because of the league’s latest protocols, Giants coaches and players did not meet on Monday or Tuesday, and most of the staff worked remotely.”

The Giants coaches did not meet in person Monday or Tuesday but Garrett worked a normal Wednesday day before learning overnight of his advanced test, NFL NetworkTom Pelissero reported.

The Giants stopped practice Thursday and are awaiting feedback from the NFL after a close scrutiny of close ties, but the team doesn’t expect additional coaches or assistants to be on their own.

Garrett’s absence Sunday brings Kitchens into the fray against his former team. The Browns’ former coach was fired in December last year after going 6-10 in his only season in charge of Cleveland.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers put Ronald Jones II back on the reserve / COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

The team did not reveal whether Jones tested positive or came into close contact with an infected person.

Jones, 23, was already questionable for this weekend after Tuesday’s surgery on his broken pink finger.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have also struggled after wide receiver Marquise Brown was one of three of the team’s catchers placed on their asylum / COVID-19 roster.

Brown, who caught a 44-yard pass from Lamar Jackson in Monday’s 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns, will join Miles Boykin and James Proche on the roster.

Drew Brees is back at practice but will not be put back into action by the Saints

Drew Brees returned to New Orleans Saints practice for the first time Wednesday since suffering 11 broken ribs and a lung injury against the San Francisco 49ers last month.

The Saints quarterback landed on injured reserve after suffering the debacle on Nov. 15 and has missed the last four games.

He was sent off an injured reserve, opening a 21-day window for the team to push him to the active roster.

However, while Brees has indicated he would like to appear against Kansas City Chiefs 12-1 on Sunday, Saints coach Sean Payton will not rip the 41-year-old back.
