We are always thinking Stree while they watch Roohi. For one the subject is similar. A. curail leaving a handful of scary people behind, a form of horror comedy. Also, they both have Dinesh Vijan as the producer and Rajkummar Rao as the main one, looking for himself against the supernatural. It may seem like they were cut from the same clothes but that’s where the similarities end up. Although the displays and humorous writing kept the matter lively Stree, with Roohi the experience of the arc, predictability in telling and anticipation about the gags are stressful.
The opening few minutes of Roohi help set a context. We know the idea “pakdayi vivah”Where women are abducted and violently married. In the film, Bhawra Pandey (Rajkummar) and Kattani (Varun Sharma) take such young girls and when they are ordered around by their boss Gujiya Shakeel (Manav Vij) and Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor ) their most recent victim.

Now, mainstream Bollywood has been churning out stuff in the name of the horror that ends on our funny bone. Here, of course, the laughter is deliberate for us. But there is not much between them. All the incredibly familiar movie ropes have been added – from flashing lights to the clay doors and churails and “ulte paav”To good effect sound. But there is stability in the act and one cannot help but think about how Stree he did the same and made it better.
