Hollywood veteran and Jane Fonda will be honored with a Cecil B deMille honor at the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Media Association (HFPA) has announced.
Elected by HFPA board members, the Cecil B deMille award is presented each year to a talented individual who has made a lasting impact on the world of entertainment.
Fonda, the seven-time Golden Globe winner, will be recognized at the event on Feb. 28, Vulture reported.
Ali Sar, president of HFPA, said the association is honored to celebrate the 83-year-old actor’s achievement at an upcoming awards ceremony.
“For more than five decades, Jane’s breadth of work has been anchored in her non-stop activity, using her platform to address some of the most important social issues of our time.
“Her undoubted talent has received the highest level of recognition, and while her professional life has taken many attempts, her unwavering commitment to driving change has remained,” said Sar. Fonda, who already holds two Academy Awards, an Emmy, and an AFI Lifetime Achievement to her name, is the 67th – and 16th woman – recipient of the prestigious award.
In a career spanning six decades, the actor has appeared in films such as Julia, Homecoming, Klute, and 9 to 5.
Her most recent film tour was the 2018 film Book Club, whose sequence is currently under development. She also stars in the Netflix comedy series Grace and Frankie, updated for the seventh and final season in 2019.
The actress recently made headlines for her involvement in climate change protests in Washington DC, where she was arrested several times. Previous Cecil B deMille award winners include the likes of Walt Disney, Judy Garland, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra, as well as her father Henry Fonda.
