Jamie Carragher questions whether Chelsea needed to spend £ 89m on Kai Havertz last summer and says Frank Lampard is still unsure where to put a young German in his squad.

Jamie Carragher has questioned whether Chelsea needed to sign £ 89million player Kai Havertz after he struggled early to switch to the Premier League.
The 21-year-old joined the club in an exciting contract from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer but has since failed beyond a series of under-par performances.
And now, Liverpool legend and pundit Carragher believe Havertz has given Frank Lampard a headache with the Blues boss unsure where to put him.

Writing in his column for the Daily Telegraph, Carragher added that the apparent lack of a place for Havertz in Lampard ‘s first-choice system is about to begin.
‘After an inconsistent run, Frank Lampard has been playing down the notion that Chelsea have always been title champions,’ he said.
‘This season may have been too early, but while he may not have the best starting XI in England, Frank certainly has one of the strongest squads.

Lampard is not afraid to fall on Havertz a few weeks ago after the £ 89m man’s poor form
‘I’m starting to wonder if he has too many options and that’s why he hasn’t yet settled on the right formula.
‘I look at Kai Havertz and ask if Chelsea really needed to sign last summer? He’s obviously a player with great potential, but it will never work buying a player because he’s so high, unless you have a preconceived notion of where he fits into the side . ‘
After being part of a phenomenal spending summer, which passed the £ 200m mark, Havertz arrived with high expectations.

Former Bayer Leverkusen (L) forward has so far failed to justify eye price tag
But the move on, along with teammate and summer teammate Timo Werner, has been fooled so far after scoring just one league goal from 14 appearances.
Havertz was released from the team while recovering from a coronavirus and had to settle for a place on the bench in Monday’s draw with Aston Villa.
Mateo Kovacic has no worries about the young star’s main flight passions, however, and has stuck to find the scintillating form he moved to England.
‘I really like Kai Havertz. He’s such a talented player, ‘he told the Blues’ official website. ‘It’s a good signing for Chelsea. He will be a great player for Chelsea and for world football, I am sure of that.

But Mateo Kovacic (right) has claimed he is not worried about the shape of Havertz (left) this season
‘He has great potential. He is such an elegant player. He just has to learn to play in the Premier League, that’s it.
‘It’s a difficult league with great speed, and it will get used to it. Game by game it gets better so I have no fear for Kai. ‘
Havertz have started just three out of Chelsea’s last six league games despite the recent mixed form that appears to have eliminated a potential title charge.
