James Bond, The Hobbit and The Story of a Slave: MGM Studios For Sale

MGM Holdings, which owns the MGM movie studios, has begun the process of selling the studio. With the help of two investment banks it hired for consulting, the company is now looking for other film studios, international companies and private investment companies that would be interested in acquiring the studio, which is currently valued at about $ 5.5 billion, including debts of about $ 2.3 billion.

MGM Studios has a library of over 4,000 movies and 17,000 hours of television content. It holds rights to huge cinematic franchises such as “Rocky”, “The Hobbit” and“James Bond”. She recently shared the rights with Eon, which has produced all 25 films in the series to date. In the television segment, MGM holds series like “The Story of a Slave” and“Vikings”.

According to an analysis by Deadline, the sale comes at a time when MGM Studios is unable to compete with larger studios, but can certainly provide an important share in a larger company with the help of their vast library. The sale comes during a downturn in the studio, whose biggest film, “No Time to Die,” has been repeatedly postponed following the Corona crisis. While MGM expressed a desire to release him on one of the streaming channels, their partner company, Eon, refused. According to experts, MGM’s potential sale will not begin until the film is released and gives MGM momentum of success.
