The founder of Shoughrim Park Borough has appeared in Brooklyn federal court over a 15-year-old girl’s rape charge in two states, authorities announced Thursday.
Jacob “Yanky” Daskal, 62, was charged in 2018 in state court with sexual abuse of the same girl – but federal prosecutors have stepped in and introduced a new case in the it will be significantly more jail time, court records show.
The state case is expected to be dismissed, a law enforcement source said.
Daskal was arrested Thursday afternoon before U.S. Justice Peggy Kuo. His lawyer, Henry Mazurek, pleaded not guilty on his behalf. “We intend to contest the charges and make a full legalization,” Mazurek told the judge.
Kuo Daskal was ordered to be released on a $ 4.5 million bond – signed by eight family members and backed by five properties – about a complaint by prosecutors who argued for his detention. Between August and November 2017, Daskal again raped the young girl at his home and summer home in Borough Park in South Fallsburg, New York, which he reached through New Jersey, the memo alleges.
“The victim was feared by the defendant because of his position of power in his community,” U.S. Deputy Attorney Erin Reid wrote in the memo, urging federal judge Daskal to lock in without bail awaiting trial.
In the fall of 2017, Daskal helped the victim find a new school in Chicago, Illinois, where she moved and lived with a local family, the court document says.
He reportedly kept in touch with the young girl, asking her to send him nude photos and strip him during Skype sessions, court papers prosecution.
On novel 5, 2017, Daskal flew to Chicago for one day, where he booked a hotel room and reportedly raped the child there before returning home hours later.
In early 2018, the victim trusted a mentor about the abuse and then reported it to the police.
Daskal was arrested and charged in Brooklyn High Court with third-degree rape and other raps for causing abuse of the girl at his home in Burgh Park – then acquitted $ 75,000 connection.
If convicted on the main charge in the state court, he was sentenced to at least one and a half years in prison. If convicted on the main charge in federal court, he faces a minimum of 10 years behind bars.
In federal court, he filed a three-count federal dispute with travel with intent to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, conduct of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and travel with intention to engage in illegal sexual activity.
“We believe that this defendant, who crossed state lines to sexually assault a child, should be held fully accountable for his or her prosecution and so we worked with the prosecutors. federal authorities to bring charges to a federal court, where the penalty is potentially harsher, ”said Brooklyn DA considered Oren Yaniv.
