The wrestling world is still talking about Wednesday night’s program of AEW Dynamite, where KENTA New Japan Pro-Wrestling appeared with surprise and attacked the U.S. IWGP Championship Jon Moxley. In a recent interview, Rocky Romero explained that the collaboration between the two companies comes from Moxley.
Romero is one of the most famous figures in the NJPW, both in the ring and behind the scenes. He is the winner of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team. He also has a lot of influence behind the scenes with New Japan. Jon Moxley is a major star with AEW, and he is the IWGP United States Champion, but the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented his protection.
As the relationship between AEW and New Japan begins, Rocky Romero sat down with the Wrestling Perspective Podcast to discuss how this teamwork took place. Romero said Jon Moxley was the main reason for the crosshairs.
“The idea of the whole thing, it really goes down to KENTA and Moxley, and how Moxley is basically at the heart of all of this. It really is. you want to say Kenny [Omega] yes, but I feel like Mox is there because IMPACT was even coming to AEW to work with Moxley. Obviously, with Kenny. Then KENTA comes to AEW, showing up on Dynamite, really for one reason and one reason only, and that’s because Moxley is the IWGP US Heavyweight Champion.
This kind of thing was put together, you know, we got it right from Moxley to come to New Japan Strong which is every Friday night … That’s kinda where it all started, I don’t know that KENTA was going to be on AEW. That came a lot later and was quickly put together. Everyone seemed to be happy to work together because they knew it was going to be, a wise promotion, it ‘s going to be a big mega f *** ing because no one expected it. “
