Itai Schechter is determined to leave: “Not ready to be a poster boy”

Beginning of an article

Two and a half years since he signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv, has Itai Schechter on his way to the next station? The sports channel has learned that the striker is determined to leave the team, after realizing that they are not building on him, even after the dismissal of Donis and the arrival of the new coach, Patrick van Leven. Schechter told his entourage: “I have something to contribute. If it is not here, it will be elsewhere. I am not ready to be a poster boy.”

The figures, by the way, match Schechter’s feelings: So far in the league, the striker has recorded just 273 minutes and scored only twice. It is estimated that Maccabi will not stand in Schechter’s way, and are also not expected to ask for compensation, as a sign of appreciation for a player who ends his contract at the end of the season. Quite a few teams in the league have already expressed interest in Schechter, and are willing to offer him a contract for a season and a half.

In total, Schechter has (to date) 73 appearances and 16 league goals in the Maccabi Tel Aviv uniform, as well as winning two championships since signing with the club. Schechter, who played in all the “Big Four” – Maccabi Haifa, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Betar Jerusalem And Maccabi – probably on its way to the next station.

But not only is Schechter interested in leaving: Nick Blackman, Eduardo Guerrero and Matan Hozz are also suffering from the same problem, not playing, and in any case some of them will leave the club in January. Those who have already been interested in Matan Hozaz’s services for next season are Betar Jerusalem and Bnei Yehuda (he has played in the media in the past).

And after all the departures, there are also those who join: Andre Geralds is expected to officially sign the contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv today, after landing yesterday – and was officially released from his previous team, Epoel Nicosia.
