Israeli fighter jets target Gaza Strip; no casualties were reported Conflict News

The Israeli army says it was targeting Hamas sites and tunnels after rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli warplanes have targeted the southern Gaza Strip after rockets were fired from the coastal fort.

Palestinian sources said the early Monday airstrikes hit an agricultural area in the southern city of Rafah, as well as land near the al-Furqan mosque in the town of al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis .

According to a report from the Israeli army, two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards the coast near the southern city of Ashdod.

“In response, fighting jets hit armed targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist group in the Gaza Strip, including tunnel excavation sites,” the military said.

There were no reports of damage from Palestinian rockets, with Israeli military sources indicating that they landed in the Mediterranean Sea.

Palestinian security sources in Gaza said Israeli missiles caused extensive damage but were not injured.

Responsibility for launching the rockets from Gaza was not immediately claimed.

Despite sleep in Qatar between Hamas and Israel in August, there have been several violence in recent months.

The Gaza Strip has been under Israeli-Egyptian air, ground and naval planes since 2007, shortly after Hamas took control of the land following a pre-emptive coup staged by rival aige, Fatah.

Hamas is holding an unofficial ceasefire with Israel, but the Israeli group is responsible for any attacks coming from Gaza.

Hamas, meanwhile, alleges that Israel is failing to respect its sleep obligations, which include easing the blockade on the Palestinian enclave and approving major infrastructure and job creation projects.
